MA FESTIVAL - CO HO - NEW RICE CEREMONY

The new rice ceremony is celebrated by the ma and Co Ho minorities to pray for good weather and to prevent wild animals from destroying their crops. The festival which nearly coincides with the lunar New Year of the Viet people is held in B'Lao, Bao Loc. The Ma and Co Ho worship the new rice to ensure their offspring are aware of the importance of the rice. The offerings for the ceremony include new sweet-smelling rice, a cock, a castrated hog and other wild animals, and a pot-belied jar of wine that is drunk out of the jar through bamboo straws.
